I actually managed to find one of the old design calculations for one of the lift beams in the client's archives, and I shit you not, they took the maximum lifted load and multiplied that by 10 to find their beam section. These things were built to last, not be replaced after a couple decades of service. Every single one of them not only surpassed modern design and safety standards, but they were designed to have a safety factor of 10.0 instead of the required 2.0-3.0. I once had to back-calculate the capacities of over 50 lift beams and lifting devices at a dam against current AISC/ASME criteria. If you dont see any interesting for you, use our search form on bottom. Using a slightly older design manual or code should get you close enough to the right answer on the PE. On this page you can read or download aisc 14th edition washer in PDF format. These design codes get more and more refined (and complicated) over time in order to make more efficient use of materials and resources. I also used the 1994 Aluminum Design Manual up until about 2014. Hell, I was using the 9th edition for work until about 2010 or 2011. I was supposed to use the 14th on my PE a couple years ago and I passed it just fine using the 13th. You'll be fine using the 13th edition, especially since it's the one you know.
